Once upon a time, a mother whispered secrets of the sea to her child, murmuring of sirens and mermaids that live deep beneath the waves. "mon petit cœur, when you feel lost or afraid, return to the ocean, there you will find a home." The daughter had peered up at her mother, eyes gleaming in the moonlight. "But Momma, how can I get lost if I have you?" the young girl would ask, not receiving a response from her mother, who's eyes had been drawn to the everchanging tides.

Sniffles, hardly heard over the sound of waves crashing against the beach, left the snowy feline as she awoke from her dream, though it was more memory than imagination. She rose to a seated position, wiping quickly at her face as she gathered herself and her thoughts. Once she had finally calmed, she decided that she wouldn't be able to sleep again anytime soon. Her mind was too full of turmoil and a walk may do her good.

Leaping down from the rock she had deemed her bed that night, she huffed as paws hit soft sand. A soft noise left her as she stretched her body, the last remnants of sleep leaving her. After a moment of standing there looking around, she began to trudge forward, aimlessly walking down the beach. To an onlooker, her pace would seem sluggishly slow, tail leaving a trail in the sand behind her as she kept her eyes to the ground, unfocused.

//OOC

Once upon a time...

Someone had once told her that her life was almost like a story book.

Once upon a time, long long ago.

I'll love you forever and ever, she had said, and we'll live happily ever after.

The soft, beautiful white face smiled at her, stroked her cheek. She spoke with a voice of honey, laughed with the voice of an angel. She was hers, and she loved her. Oh, she loved her so much. But laughter gave way to tears. The woman that sat next to her was now dying in her arms. That light she loved so dearly was fading. Her heart was breaking.

That beautiful smile slipped away, and she clutched the body closer, a sob tearing from her throat.

Gamelia woke with a start, feeling as if she were drowning in the bedsheets on top of her. Clawing and pulling them off, she was surprised when a tear dripped onto the fabric. The memory was already fading. Why was she crying?

The dragon wiped at her eyes in confusion, and slid off of her bed. Something told her she wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. Her bedroom door creaked as she opened it, slipping into the hallway. Her footsteps echoed loudly off of the walls. It was making her uneasy, and she hurried out into the living room. Maybe she needed some time outside.

Taking care to close the front door behind her, the candied dragon quietly descended the porch stairs and headed down to the sea, listening to the waves crash onto the sand, lit only by the moonlight. But through it all, she thought she heard a quiet sob.

Alerted and concerned, Gamelia looked around until she spotted her. The white fur seemed to almost glow in the darkness, and something about it made her... sad. Was it tied to her dream?

Upon getting closer, she realized the crying feline was Diya. Brows furrowing gently, he paused where she stood. "Diya?" she spoke quietly. "Are you okay?

A quiet voice broke the felines daydream-like state, almost startling her. When had she sat down? She couldn't remember, she had been so lost in her head. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" Surprise filled the snowy feline as her voice cracked under the weight of her tears. Oh. She had started crying again.

She quickly wiped at her face, shaking her head before forcing a smile to appear on her maw. "I'm alright, Gamelia, it's just a rough night." She cleared her throat, eyes quickly glancing up and down the beach for more people that may approach her during her moment of vulnerability. Satisfied they were really alone, she turned her gaze back to the candy-covered dragon. "What has you up so late?"

Gamelia was not convinced. Coming closer until the two were side by side, she sat down. Reddish eyes lowered to look at Diya. "I'm sure you are," she answered silkily. "Crying with joy, no doubt." She didn't pry further.

Rough night, was it? Perhaps that made two, even if she couldn't explain her own restlessness. Although she would regret it later, she lowered herself onto her belly so that they were more eye-level. Sand.

When the conversation turned back to her, Gamelia looked out over the water. "I'm not quite sure," she murmured. "I think I had a bad dream, but I've already forgotten most of it. I don't think I'll fall back asleep if I try, though." She sighed. Staying up all night wasn't favorable.

Diya kept eyes on the dragoness as she approached, looking back to the beach and its waves as Gamelia settled beside her. She laid down a huff, resting her head on her paws and tucking her tail firmly against her side. She kept her head tilted towards the candied beast, baby blue eyes meeting red.

"I suppose tonight is just the night for dreams," she'd muse, a yawn rippling from her maw. "Despite how tired I am, I don't think I can get back to sleep either." The were-vampire gave another yawn, her fangs, which recently she had been unable to hide away, reflecting the moonlight. her maw snapped shut, giving Gamelia a sympathetic smile.

Gamelia was trying to be discreet, but she kept staring at Diya. Something was itching at the back of her mind, the same something had had been plaguing her since she had first laid eyes on her at the gate. For the life of her, she just couldn't quite place it. With a light shake of her head, the dragon stared down at her hands, fiddling with the sand.

A night for dreams... was that a thing? She didn't doubt it. All kinds of phenomenon have been going on at this island for decades. "Maybe," she replied idly. Diya's abnormally long fangs caught her interest, but she didn't think too hard about it - everybody had their own little quirks here. Feeling her own yawn coming on, she fought it, keeping her jaws shut. "You'd probably have a better time sleeping in a bed than out in the night chill," Gamelia commented. The noisy waves would certainly keep her awake, at the very least.

Diya thought nothing of Gamelia's stares, and to be fare she had been doing some staring of her own, though most likely for different reasons. That and, she tended to zone out, focusing only on the scent of the ocean salt or the dragon's silky voice among the crashing waves.

"You'd probably have a better time sleeping in a bed than out in the night chill,"

Diya shook her head, focusing her gaze on the vast ocean, the moonlight's glow rippling across the water. "Sleeping in a bed requires having a bed. Mine went up in flames some time ago," she would admit, releasing a huff of air. Her mother's words echoed in her mind. "return to the ocean, there you will find a home" she murmured softly, more to herself than anything. She cleared her throat, focusing back on her indigo companion. "The beach is the closest thing to comfort I've got."

Gamelia was quiet, hands clasped together neatly and eyes closed, listening to both the waves and Diya. Something about the ocean was soothing. Perhaps she wouldn't mind sleeping out here after all.

She opened her eyes again, looking down at the feline with an expression nearing shock. She didn't have a home? It had burned?

Releasing her hands, the dragoness reached out to briefly touch Diya's back reassuringly. "Are you sure you're alright out here all on your own?" Pausing, she shook her head as if to answer her own question. Pushing herself to her feet (and revealing a sand-caked belly), she turned away. "That won't do. Wait here, I'll be back," she said, beginning to walk up the shore.

Only a few minutes later she returned, something in her jaws, which occasionally tripped her up. As she got closer, it became apparent that it was a blanket. Gamelia dropped it on the ground. "If you're really going to stay out here, the least I can do is give you a way to keep warm. I brought it from my bed, and I'll have you know it's quite comfortable," she huffed, beginning to unfold the soft sheet. In a playful gesture, she tossed the edge of it on top of her companion before wiggling underneath herself. "There. Much better," came a muffled voice.

"Are you sure you're alright out here all on your own?"

Diya opened her mouth to say something in response, most likely along the lines of "it's not like I have any family to be here with me" or something equally as depressing. She wasn't granted the chance though, as the indigo dragon took off with orders to wait.

With a huff, she tucks her paws beneath herself, laying her head down and closing her eyes as she waited. She remained there, as instructed, wondering where the oddball dragon had gone off to.

Snowy ears flicked at the sound of sand crunching under-paw, the sweet smell of sugar alerting the keen-sensed feline to the dragon's approach. She peeked an eye open to spot what was causing the odd gait of the reptile, surprised when she found the source to be a lengthy blanket.

She felt a wave of emotion washing over her, roaring in her ears. She was quiet as the blanket was tossed over her. Nestling into it, she sniffled, tugging it partially over her head until only her face stuck out. Gamelia had gone and... got a blanket for them to use. Not even a spare one but, she said it had come from her own bed. She had pulled a blanket, that would become sand-caked and salt water-soaked, from her own bed. Maybe it was the exhaustion, maybe it was the stress or the fact that she hadn't eaten recently, but the kindness of such a fact brought tears to the feline's eyes. she sniffles, tears silently soaking her pale cheeks.

Gamelia wasn't there to pry answers from the saddened feline. She was just there to offer her support, even if she wasn't quite sure what she was supporting. From under the sheets the dragon wiggled around, trying to get comfortable on the gritty sand. She didn't want it working its way into her belly and becoming an irritation.

Eventually, she settled for laying on her side, but another sniffle alerted the reptile, and she twisted her head around until her nose just barely touched Diya's fur. "I'm not going to pry into your problems, and I know we don't know each other well, but just know that I'm here for you," she murmured quietly, closing her eyes.

Lapsing into silence while the other cried, she opened her eyes when something clicked. Her expression fell. "You know, I've been trying to figure something out since I met you, and... I think I just did." She turned her head away, resting her cheek on the cool sand. "You... remind me of someone I used to know." She paused, jaws parting to continue, but she didn't.
