SPROUT || hatching - Strange Egg - 03-24-2020

OOC// the goal is to have the pitt name her ICly!!

In spite of the drama that followed the discovery of the egg's resting place, it had safely made its way into the Event Temple, where it had been watched over for the next few weeks. Various NPCs would take turns watching over the egg, some speculating what it would hatch into, others doubting that it would survive. The egg responded to the queries with silence.

A near full month had passed when it began to show signs of life. Those who listened closely might have been able to hear a faint scratching from within the shell. Those who touched it might feel the child that moved within. In the early hours of the morning, while light was still leaking over the lands, a small crack appeared on the speckled white surface.

News spread quickly between those who incubated the egg, and everyone waited with bated breath. Hours passed. Slowly, the child began to unzip its confinement. The sun rose higher, and it was at a blazing peak, harshly beating down on the decimated jungle, when a beak poked its way out of the pipped hole.

[div style="width: 425px; text-align: justify; text-indent: 30px; opacity: 0.70; font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px; padding-top: 10px;"]Sweeney did not know much about the egg that had resided in the Event Temple. Whether it be the adults that kept the children away the best that they could or the fact that she just didn't really care about an egg she didn't care to share. Of course, the thing inside the egg was something she had been interested in - what was it, where had it come from, could she keep it and teach it to say "fuck" as she and her siblings knew - but she didn't want to wait for it to come out, and had promptly forgot about it.

Though when chatter had come about that there was something coming from the egg at last, Sweeney gathered her thoughts and promptly made her way over to where the egg was, writhing her way through the forms of the others that had promptly gathered as well, before sitting and watching, and waiting, trying to be the first one the creature saw, for she'd been told about imprinting in a passing conversation.

THERE IS NO LIFE, THERE IS NO SPARK !
CAESAR CIPHER. MALE. THE PITT. DWELLER.
Caesar had heard about some sort of egg that was found in the desert, and the savannah was part of the 'its not going to survive' crew. He thought they thought've left it out there still, because it wasn't going to make it regardless. So whenever he heard murmurs about the egg hatching, Caesar made his way over, clearly already annoyed by it. "This is stupid." He grumbled to no one in particular. "We should've left it out there." Because now, if there was something alive in there hatching, then they would have to deal with a literal child on their hands. And frankly, that was something he didn't want to do.

Astiar had hardly left the egg since he'd found it. The only times that his massive form was missing from the scene of doting over the soon to be living creature was when he was buzzing off to find nourishment of his own. Hunger was constant with him and Astiar was hardly able to take it most of the time, especially when his mind was so conflicted that he would jaggedly sit nearby the egg. Nothing really could keep him away due to his size, not even a monstrous crowd. He didn't know exactly how to take care of an egg. Cicadas didn't do this normally, but when had Astiar even settled into any form of normalcy? When he heard the noises of movement within started, the dragon's head jerked upright. Antennae writhed as he began chattering, the noise intensifying when the sight of a beak through the eggshell appeared. His wings buzzed, the dragon scooting forward from where he had previously been somewhat sitting. Astiar eagerly anticipates the hatchling's full arrival into the world, red eyes glistening in delight.

OOC// im ok with whatever name your characters agree on/come up with

Hatching was an exhausting process.

The tiny black beak had seemed frozen in time, small cheeps slipping out as the baby took its first breaths. Retreating back within the warm and dark shell, as the light and sounds were unfamiliar and frightening, several minutes passed in silence. It wasn't long until the egg began to move again, fear seemingly forgotten.

Cracked bits of shell began to flake off as the chick struggled to push its way out, the broken cap of the egg being forced off. Bright green down exposed itself, slicked with moisture. At last, with a final push, egg and child were separated. Exhausted, it laid there, taking quick and deep breaths. Blue eyes blinked in the foreign light.

It was a little girl, a bird chick of interesting appearance. Her seemingly nature-inspired plumage was accompanied by faint yellow speckles, which would one day evolve into a gradient. Two long, antennae-like feathers would soon stick out of her head, but at the moment, they were plastered to her body.

She let out a small chirp. I did it! she seemed to say. But that was enough - she wanted to rest.

call me your sweet baby —

Mercede was pissed that they had been right. That the egg had cracked and hatched before her own eyes before she could eat it or perhaps covet it.

But there was no use in broken shells. Fragments of trash held no interest to her. But the little baby did.

“Let’s call it Emerald or Emmy for short!”, her eyes got that hungry look again as she walked forward. Oh to have a little birdie servant! Mercede was once again thinking mine and how she could possess it.

Her interest in a group of lackeys had grown quite significantly recently.

Well, the damn thing hatched, and right before Caesar's eyes. The demon blinked at the chick that just fought her way out of the egg, unsure of what to say at first. After all, he doubted that the chick could talk, let alone understand anything he (or anyone else) said. Hearing Mercede's words though, he snorted. "We should eat it." He had half the mind to attack the damn thing, but it barely had any meat to it. Maybe they could poison it and leave it in The Typhoon or Tanglewood's territory. "It's not like it'll have any feelings." Besides, it's not like anyone knew whether or not this chick had a consciousness and was able to tell what going on. And frankly, Caesar didn't want to wait months before deciding that they could eat the damn thing.

Perhaps Astiar should have been more shocked that the egg hatched something bird like. After all, he was quite bound to his instincts and a bug's worst fear tended to be multiple species of birds. However, size came into factor. Astiar quickly found that he didn't particularly care if the egg happened to hatch a bird. A part of him was still happy that it had hatched at all. For a creature so bare minded, that little chirp that sounded absolutely melted him. Adorable, the word flickered in his mind. This was life and it was adorable.

Astiar did not, however, understand names. He had been given one simply because it was easier to refer to the giant buzzing monster by a name rather than 'bug'. It made it easier to decipher which exact bug was being spoken about. A name he had no complaints about. He reached down and carefully began to move the discarded shell away, his basic mind turning over the idea that the sharp edges would not bode well for the chick. Astiar's horned head snapped up when the term 'eat' registered, him rapidly clicking his mandibles in a manner most furious. "LIVES LIVES LIVES," the dragon mentally bellowed, his claws curling. Yes, it had to live, for living was what instinct required. What did chicks eat? The dragon had no idea. Slowly his head lowered again to continue moving away the shells, his unblinking red gaze staring ahead. Astiar would fetch food later, for keeping this new life safe took up the forefront of his mind. Greed nor hunger would stop the idiotic bug's desire to raise what he'd found.
