spiders?? - skypher - 05-06-2018 what the heck are spiders? It says theres spiders at the bottom of the home page. It says like 33 Guests, 26 Users (2 Buddies, 3 Spiders, 1 Hidden) spiders?? Re: spiders?? - vvintersoldier - 05-06-2018 I believe spiders are users who have their profile set to hidden, so people can't see them online. :0 Re: spiders?? - skypher - 05-06-2018 wait what about the "1 hidden" thing then? Re: spiders?? - vvintersoldier - 05-06-2018 oh wait i didn't notice the hidden part lol I'm not too sure what spiders are then. xD Re: spiders?? - guts - 05-06-2018 it's prolly people who don't have accounts but are viewing the forums Re: spiders?? - fabrie - 05-06-2018 ahh, i believe they're some kind of bot?? i found an article on them, though i'm not 100% sure if those are the spiders that we have. here Re: spiders?? - rakue - 05-07-2018 people that view the forum, either logged out or without an account, are considered "guests". this includes the majority of bots, but i wouldnt be surprised if "spiders" was separate. this is a question for [member=1]Orion[/member] lol Re: spiders?? - Orion - 05-07-2018 When it comes to adding our site to the Google (and Bing/DuckDuckGo/etc), the network needs to gather information of what the site's content is and what it contains. To do this, these search engines deploy something spiders. These spiders 'crawl' (or search through our site for reputable content) and observe the site to gather information. They usually gather this information by going from hyperlink to hyperlink. Once the information is gathered, they will take the pages that apply to them and index them. Indexing, also known as adding the page to the Google's database, provides us the opportunity to be able to reach higher on the search engine, especially since we haven't had much luck with that yet. Still, there's hope! These guests/spiders/creepy crawlies are something that will help us through this process. Other ways to help is advertisement on other sites, providing in/out clicks, and word of mouth. Tumblr/Twitter/DeviantArt + the voting affiliates are what we have in store as of right now, *but* we do have an advertisement contest coming. So there may be less spiders crawling around soon enough! Maybe more. Who knows. Also yes, spiders is a separate entity than guests. Most guests that appear to be registering are bots that are blocked by the system lmao. |
