sacrifice of a starlight - joining - fulzanin - 10-05-2019

The sun was a searing hot against her scales. It mattered not that summer was falling prey to the cold of fall. A desert was a desert, and in the daytime it was just as ferociously hot. Such was it's purpose, a barrier to keep curious creatures and opponents from entering. Wooden spikes did little to stop a creature that soared high over them. The sun baked her purple scales: her form that had once been made to only handle the darkest night. She was not used to the blazing sun. She was made to be a creature of the night, to strike when other's couldn't see. Swiftly it had been discovered that her night vision had gone awry. It was little better than how it had been as a youth and it irritated her to no end.

Aslisk rolled her head. Her shoulders were sore from being kept open for so long. The heat of the desert allowed for her to glide most of the way. She had decided on this direction and would not back out of it now. She knew something was awry. She knew that the lack of arms, the new spike on her forehead, her webbed ears, and the lack of fur on her tail. The lessened amount of spikes and the formation of more teeth than before were changes that she could handle. Her memories being skewed, though? She drew the line there.

Her head craned down, looking at where the jungle began to form where the desert faded. Her wings pressed closer to her sides to drop her into a swift fall. The talons extended, and latched on to a sturdy branch. The wings then spread open to slow the rest of her fall. A wince took over her body, then giving herself a shake. "In hindsight, this should have probably snapped," the wyvern muttered. Her vibrant purple scales stood out against the green and brown colors of the trees. With her descent slowed, her body then leaned forward. Aslisk glided down to the ground, talons scuffing at the ground. The blue webbing of the ears twitched and raised. Hearing something, her form swiftly curled closer. "Hello?" Aslisk's tone was barely greater than a hiss, feeling her long tongue scrape roll against the front teeth. That, too, was another abnormality. She loathed such a thing. Her head lowered, a snarl tugging at the corners of her maw, looking slowly between the trees for the source of the noise of another creature approaching.

"Vibrant?" Aslisk sounded almost appalled. She couldn't be that vibrant, could she? Her head craned and glanced at her wings: limbs that she hadn't taken the time to truly look into. Her scales were far too bright for her liking. That was irritating. It showed in a sharp flick of her tail, an irritable motion. "Redvox, huh." The nickname, the one that was shorter, it almost reminded her of something. Her mind pressed, trying to remember. It gave her a name, a name she knew was wrong. One that sparked sheer annoyance in her mind: of a pathetic scientist who thought a frog with arrows could take over the universe. Or something like that. She didn't press into it any longer; if anything, it was still laughable even if she felt as if her memories were skewed. It mattered little at the time.

There were questions being asked of her. The webbed ears raised, aiding to a thoughtful expression that spread across her face. One answer was more simple to answer. The other, though? Her reason was nonexistant. She'd have to come up with something on the fly. Something swift and believable. Her mind wracked for a brief moment. "My name is Aslisk." She answered, swiftly to cover up her inner thoughts. They didn't take kindly to visitors? Her tongue clicked against her teeth. "Why is that, if you don't mind elaborating?" Her tone was masked with curiosity, but it underlaid with the same hiss that had been present before. Irritated, angered, annoyed, possible? "If I am to be honest, I don't have any business here. Nor do I know of that.. 'territory' concept." Her jaws pressed together, forming a slight frown. How strange of a term. She blamed her memories being out of sort for making her look like a fool.

"Although, this is the first civilization of sorts I've come across. I'd hoped to be able to stay." That was a smidgen of a fib. In truth, she did not know that there had been a society here until speaking to his..strange oddity. Something was familiar though, more than the name. Her red eyes squinted, trying to place the memories. Not much could she gather from them. A friend's friend? Aslisk couldn't pin it down, and it brought an annoyance to the front of her mind. Her words conflicted with her previous statement, but the wyvern seemed to not fully grasp her error.

Aslisk's long tail continued to twitch behind her. The webbed ears of the wyvern spread, as if it would help her listen. She could almost pin down the name she was looking for. Three syllables. Did it start with 'h' or a 'j'? She couldn't remember for the life of her. It frustrated her that the name was stuck. Who was the bat-bird-goat that she had known before her spontaneous arrival here? She had nothing to curse but the area around her for her memory growing terrible. It couldn't be her fault. That didn't make a single bit of sense. "Hah. Sounds like home," Aslisk chuckled, rolling her shoulders. "I am- was, more like- quite the avid murderer and kidnapper and torturer. Can't say I do the former two anymore. Grew tired of it." Her wings then moved to shrug, flapping and curling at the warm air of the jungle. She was used to heat. To build her heat endurance, her mother had hung her in an incinerator by her wings and left her to dangle there for hours. Her magnesium build back then had saved her from burning to death. Did this body carry over that built up resistance? Aslisk truly didn't want to have a way to test such a thing. "Torture can be fine if it's for a good reason, you know?" The wyvern justified.

Then Aslisk moved her weight to favor her right foot. A thinking motion of a sort, taking in the words and the explanation being provided to her. "Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt for me to stay awhile. If he's going to chase me out it'd probably be fun. Isn't that funny, being chased?" A grin was presented on the purple beast's face, which swiftly fell prey to her more neutral expression. "Leaders are usually very busy. I'm sure he'll get around to it soon." A shrug of her wings turned into her scratching at her left horn with the talon present on the joint of her wing. The talons of her tail clicked together once, twice, a third, a fourth time. Then the wyvern scoffed, her red eyes narrowing. "I did not charge in here, I merely came down and landed on a branch and then on the ground. If I was charging, I would have broken that poor branch. I didn't." Her weight moved again, now to her left, testing how her legs bent and the talons of her feet twitched under her command. "I think I'll be staying for a while, then. Not to mention it's far too hot to be going anywhere else right now." Aslisk muttered. "Is there a specific area everyone lives in, or am I to just crawl up in a tree as I see fit? Might still do that, actually."

" biting the burning bullet to break bones "

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

the sun had been a call to take flight to the long dragon, a blessing to their aching bones, the thin air high above just enough for the being to float, using their body to move easily like a snake through water, feet stretched for their landing. they had seen aslisk in the sky beforehand, and had been keeping an eye on her. gliding down, the golden beast made their way to the clearing, listening to redvox speak to aslisk, their blind gaze taking the duo in with a humored snort.

"home indeed, hey?" they rumbled in greeting, emerging from the trees to show themselves better. "most of those who approach our borders are naive about who we are, believe it or not. redvox summed it up pretty well, but there are a few things that you need to do before we can welcome you in. first, what are your skills, second, will you kill when ordered, third, do you save your own hide over another's? fourth, do you like creating chaos? those are just some of the questions that should be asked." the marauder spoke, withholding their own name for the time being, until she had given her answer.

they felt that the tensions within the group were only rising and well, it was better to flush out and strengthen the weaknesses in the group that they currently called home. all that really mattered to them was if they could trust her to do her assigned jobs and to trust her not to stab them in the back. there had been enough disloyalty in the group that they were ashamed to not have caught.

"My home is a place of cannibals." Aslisk replied. Home. She hadn't thought about her home in a long time. There was no sun, it was a barren planet covered in rocks. Vicious creatures patrolled about: some experiments, some imported from elsewhere, some those that had lost their mind. It was the world of live or die, and the society was no better. The ranks were earned in blood, in selfishness. How well you could kill, how smart you were, that were the values. If such a thing was not shown early in life, they were used as sustenance for the society. Churned and infused with minerals and all sorts of chemicals. Aslisk had been spared from such a thing: she was one of those creations, after all. Born to kill, to slaughter, to tear apart and destroy and slay. She liked to think that her sentience was her saving grace. It allowed her to be more than just a mad animal with a thirst for blood. "So living amidst a bunch of 'horrific' people is like a return home session."

One of her talons raised to scratch her chin. Those were some difficult questions to answer. A thoughtful hum parted her jaws. "My skills? I suppose being created for massive slaughter could be considered such a thing. I'm far better at killing than fighting - getting the drop on others is very satisfying." The wyvern began to answer. Her wings folded by her sides into a more resting position. "Mm. Killing when ordered used to be my purpose. I sort of left it. Got tired of it. I suppose it couldn't hurt to do such a thing in exchange for a place to live." The thought of killing had long ago been the center of her purpose. She needed to do such to keep her sentience in hand. Now, though? Torturing was more fun. Doing it because she had to? Sure. Whatever. Aslisk doubted anyone here was of any importance to her here. There wasn't a reason for her to care. Spare her morals. Spare all her trials and tribulations to get away from mindless slaughter. She probably could find a way around such a thing later. Her tongue pressed against her teeth, dismissing the thought. It would be fine. "Depends on if they're a stranger or someone I'm supposed to be living alongside," Aslisk replied. That was a harder question to answer. She supposed that she valued the life of those she deemed either friends than family than a stranger. Was that wrong to do? To care more about those close than to those that were complete and utter nuisances? "I suppose I do like a little bit of chaos. It's a lot easier to get things done when everyone around is in the heat of the moment." Of course she, too, was not immune to the instance of being lost in the chaos. It was a thin line to use chaos to the advantage, and another to be the one caught in the midst of it all. "I think that summarizes it, in it's basics."
