TOLD YOU NOT TO WORRY && relaxing - idyllfields - 09-13-2019

the coyote's hut was live with activity that late morning, bustling in and out of their home with multiple items that may seem... uncharacteristic for the sage if no one knew of their upbringing.

the suitcase that idyll had brought with them upon arrival had remained unopened.

until today.

outside of their home sat a gramophone, loudly playing the record of an old record with the song when summer is gone faded on its packaging. it crackled and stalled every once in a while, but idyll was in pure bliss when listening to the old player. silken sheets were laid out across the ground, softer than feathers and shining beautifully in the sun. they collapsed onto their back into the sheets, letting the sun warm them up and the music send them back into older memories.

The serval regarded Idyll with a strange expression, unsure of how to exactly perceive this situation. On one hand, the music was lovely (if not entirely vintage sounding) but on the other, she had no idea how it was even playing, let alone how the sage had gone about obtaining it. Etherealgate stared at the gramophone with faint intrigue. She had little to no experience with technology and was as fascinated as she was frightened by the object. She wanted to know more. She also wanted to stay as far away from it as possible. The discovery of a good middle ground left her rooted to the spot, metaphorical eyebrows raised inquisitively. "And," She added, too curious to hold her tongue and wait for them to answer her first question, "Where'd you get it?"

It wasn't often that Wormwood was able to listen to music, mainly because Poetking had been the one with all of the old human music playing devices, back when he had lived in Tanglewood. Worm had often stolen these devices away in order to listen to thinks for himself, fascinated by the words that fell so beautifully from other's lips in a way that he could never duplicate, but he had never bothered looking for anything that could play music for himself. So when Poetking had disappeared, the music in Worm's life had disappeared with him – another reason that Wormwood felt hatred slowly building for his sibling as time went on. However, for the first time in several weeks, Worm could feel faint music gliding and dancing effortlessly along the air to reach his ears. At first his heart sped up, since the sound of music made him think, even faintly, that Poetking had returned, but then he remembered that he wasn't in Tanglewood, and he felt a soft sigh leaves him as he shook his head from side to side. He didn't want to see the lion anyways, so why should he get excited?

Instead of focusing on his conflicted feelings over his family troubles, Worm had slowly gotten up to his paws and moved over to where Idyll was listening to the music, sprawled out on their back and hearing up under the midday sun. Wormwood had hesitated for a moment before moving to sit nearby, hearing Etherealgate and glancing over at the other. He knew about the more modern music playing devices, but he actually had no experience with the older things such as gramophones, so he decided to let Idyll answer those particular questions. The hellhound slowly lowered himself down in a laying position nearby, letting his chin rest against the ground as he closed his eyes, his tail faintly flicking from side to side as he yipped at Idyll, "You have some pretty good taste in music, Idyll." He didn't want to interrupt the moment any further, so he just stayed in his resting position, listening to the conversation between Idyll and Ethereal.

There were the grass upon people's bodies, their demeanors, their silly word choices. They were all foreign and left the pterosaur confused often and disgruntled equally so. The noise of music drew the creature of the air down to the ground. He took a few paces to wear off the momentum of his landing, clicking his beak rapidly a few times. "Is that what this noise is? 'Music'?" He echoed in his ever present shriek. The sheets, too, were an oddity to him. The pteranodon moved forward to stare, lowering his head to look at the item. "This is..a rock, but not." He muttered, blue eyes squinting in a manner that could almost be considered suspicion. More stupid, foreign nonsense. "I don't think you can taste noise," Tanteri then clucked, his head turning to glance at Wormwood for but a moment before his attention returned to the soft sheet.

upon hearing their crewmates the coyote leaned back onto their paws and watched them approach, a large smile on their maw.

"hello everyone!" they greeted warmly, patting down on the soft silks they laid on. "come join me! they're the softest silks you'll ever touch. sourced straight out of turkey." they promise, their paw moving to wave the smoke of a lavender incense over in their direction.

to answer etherealgate first, they spoke, "it is called a gramophone. it is an old music player that is powered manually. you see the lever on the side? you crank it a few times and the needle will begin to read the lines of music on the vinyl, and then the sound comes out of that bright golden tube." they proceeded to stand and move toward it, beckoning her to come closer. "try it for yourself! just be gentle, it is very old. mother told me that her grandmother was the first to own it and pass it down."

at wormwoods comment, they puffed out their chest and couldn't help but grin in pride. "thank you! all of my music comes from the vinyls my father left me and the few that nanny had purchased for me growing up. I was only allowed to listen to it growing up, but personally i can't seem to find any music better than this." they had certainly tried listening to sea-shanty's and those fast-speaking battles. open mic nights at the capricorn tavern were rather lively with those, but idyll much preferred these moments.

then to address tanteri, they nodded quickly. "yes! music. isn't it beautiful? i am sure there wasn't much except for the wildlife back in your... your time." they paused, wondering briefly if that was worded correctly. "you are more than welcome to lay upon the silks, tanteri. they're very soft and feel wonderful."
