He still couldn't fully understand gaelic- he hadn't picked it up for some reason, though he could click like the raptors perfectly well -but Owen's response had him crestfallen, to say the least.
"Why c'n Masie go but not me? I'm big enough!" he whined, not seeing the danger present. Of course, he welcomed the nuzzle from the giant rex, and while it eased his heartache a bit it didn't cure it. Valentine turned his glassy pink eyes up to his father, begging for reconsideration.

Masie's words did less to reassure him.
"But I wanna get my own shiny stuff..." he muttered, kicking at a stone with his paw. As more people joined he seemed more and more crestfallen. But, then, an idea hatched. Maybe... maybe he could go after all. Just in secret.

"Whatever," the pup huffed, rising off his hackles and plodding off.
