Ares. Female. Tanglewood. Child.
Scared child became just unnerved as Salvia crouched down and told her that the big lion wasn't going to hurt her or steal her food. Slowly she nodded, and pressed against Elsweyr's tail as it curved around the child. "So.. big...! Big is.. scary." She muttered, even though all fear seemed to have left her eyes. NOTHING BESIDE REMAINS — This was not the first time that Aurum had been snarled at in fear, and he had strong doubts that it would be the last. After all, the former proxy was an African lion, and a large one, at that. It was difficult for him not to appear intimidating, even with a smile on his face and a kind look in his one remaining eye. Still, he found himself wincing as the young girl hissed at him, taking another step back and attempting to make himself look smaller, his large body pressing against the ground and his golden wings spreading out flat at his sides. He rumbled softly, adding on to what both Elsweyr and Salvia had said, "Like those two said, I'm not any threat to you, I promise. I just came over to see what was going on... your name is very pretty, you know." His current position was rather awkward, but he still stayed essentially laid down, not wanting to shift too quickly and cause the child to panic once again. Thankfully, he was able to make himself comfortable, his back legs shifting and splaying out as he waited for the child to calm herself. He wasn't intimidated or worried by her hissing, no, but he did want her to stop hissing, so that she would be able to just enjoy her food properly. Upon hearing Elsweyr's explanation of how Ares had come to be within their territory, he slowly nodded, mumbling to the cheetah as his tail flicked back and forth behind him, "Fear scent, huh? Sounds like she might have been left behind for safety reasons. Maybe her parents are still out there... we should make sure that we take care of her. Treat her as one of her own, and see if her parents come back. If not, we can always just keep taking care of her." He then let his one eyed gaze flick back over to Ares, a soft chuckle leaving him as he saw how she pressed into Elsweyr's tail. He spoke reassuringly, letting his one eye fall shut so that he was even less frightening to the child, "As they said, my name is Aurum. I may be big, but I don't make a habit of hurting people, I promise. I'm happy to welcome you into Tanglewood, alright?" His one blue eye opened once again, and he tilted his head curiously to one side, wondering if she would actually calm down further. If not, he could just head back home, and allow Elsweyr to handle things, with the help of Salvia, if his son wanted to stick around. — OF THE MAN WHO WAS BORN AND DIED A KING. Ares. Female. Tanglewood. Child.
The tiny child looked at Aurum, listening to him, trying to understand. He wasn't a danger? But he was so big! But pretty-mother and Little Lion said he wasn't any harm. Big lion said so too. She stood up and fumbled with her paws before slowly walking toward Aurum. Her head was tilted and she walked with one paw up. Once she was close to his muzzle, she bopped him on the nose with her paw. For her, it was a test of temperment (even if she didn't know that). NOTHING BESIDE REMAINS — Aurum had been waiting for some kind of reaction from the child, but he hadn't exactly been expecting a bop on the nose. The angel blinked down at Ares, a soft chuckle leaving him as he scrunched up his nose, shaking his head from side to side. His sunrise colored mane seemed to shift with every move that he made, and he reached a large paw out to pat the kitten on the head. As he did so, he spoke with a content hum, "See? I'm not gonna do anything to hurt you, or any of my friends. I know how to use my large size for good, I promise." He could only hope that the girl wouldn't see him around any of the Wanderers. They were not counted on that list of friends and he wouldn't hesitate to use his large size against them – whether it came to defending others, or attacking them. — OF THE MAN WHO WAS BORN AND DIED A KING. Re: You look so pretty, but you're gone so soon! /O, Joiner - Grimm - 11-30-2020 To observe the manner Elsweyr had grown taken by the kitten, in a frame of time that seemed so minimal, drew discomfort beneath his skin, taunt grown once lax muscle. Before there had been no issue with the situation of his own lack of maternal figure, he may not miss that he had not known for care had shifted to Aurum alone in early days. Downward twitched lips as he watched her coil the length of her tail about, restrain in part possibly as continued the display, something with it spurning cub. Away attention moved as she addressed Aurum in turn, filling in the spaces he was incapable of doing so.

Briefly back did it shift, the voice that spoke gentle, nest inaudible. Imparted meaning, if not words, hasty retreat conducted to permit the kitten room. Forgotten how he bore a size greater than she, though still did he grow and was soft beneath baby fat, sheepish grown in wake of realisation. "Sometimes I get scared as well." Softened his voice, gentle the curl about his lips, grown silent as movement was made apparent by the manner paws slide along the loose terrain. Over shoulder vision turned and he almost allowed laughter to arise as he watched the manner Aurum spread himself out, indeed smaller but in a position Salvia had not seen him prior. Taken by example so too did he lower himself, still permitted distance between himself and Ares, chin nestled between his paws. From here did he watch her shaky approach, upwards head jerking before it was quickly pressed back into place, he bore no wish to startle Ares. With her action, and that his father performed after, loosened his laughter, a sudden burst of mirth. "He's a big teddy bear." The grin he bore was in part for the child, much for the memories that gently played, those nights pressed against slumbering father, a comforting presence chasing from frightened mind any nightmare that had previously plagued him.
