WHERE MIGHT WE GO / joining - MERGED - 02-17-2020

he didn't have a single clue where he was, or why everything was so.. big. he was just the size of those tall flower stalks, lifting his clumsy little paws to fold the flowers down, not much enjoying the thought of having to run head first through millions of brightly coloured buds that had no business being in bloom this late into the winter. he'd have to tell his mother about this, if he could ever find her again.

hearing his stomach rumble, he began to realize just how hungry he really was. licking his maw, he stared at a flower bud under his paw, before opening his jaws wide to chomp down on the flower. it didn't taste good, but he was hungry, so he just ate it without any thought. he huffed, sitting back on his haunches and lifting his upper body to try and look over the flowers, only to tumble back onto his back.

"oof- ow! eso fue grosero.."[sup]*[/sup] he muttered, rolling onto his stomach and huffing to himself. maybe someone would find him, eventually.

[sup]*[/sup] that was rude.

Children were not an unknown to Elysium. After all, they had Sanzu here, along with Lark – although the latter was beginning to not qualify as a child so much anymore. As such, Nemhain had actually interacted with children, even though the concept of childhood was just so utterly foreign to the persona that it might as well have been a made up story within Rin's memories. Even with this experience, however, that didn't mean that Nemhain knew exactly what to do when she came across a child all on his own during her daily flight around the territory. She hesitated in the sky overhead for a moment before she went diving down, landing several feet away and taking a few long strides to make her way over. Keen eyes scanned over Spanishkit for a moment, taking in his tiny – especially tiny, compared to her own massive avian form – body and looking for any signs of injury. When she found none, she lowered her head closer to the ground, cocking it to one side before she chirped, her voice deep and loud – although she was making an attempt to hold herself back, "Tiny child... mister little one, are you alright? One as young as you shouldn't be out here unaccompanied by an adult... have you been abandoned?" She could've sworn that she heard the child mutter something while she was up in the air, but it had sounded foreign to her ears, and she couldn't parse out the meaning behind it.

Halo approaches after Nemhain, giving a good once-over and realizing how tall this kitten is. Was he on steroids? Bah, questions for later. Halo had a gentle expression on his face and instead gave a warm smile, matching his tone.

Nemhain is right. Are you okay? Do you need somewhere to stay?

//kinda ish, but I hope that’s okay!

Children probably shouldn't be out wandering alone. Sanzu was a child, and here she was, wandering out alone. A similarity, yes. She'd likely been attempting to understand the territory better. She was getting older by the days, bolder, growing slowly yet surely. Despite the smallest of height increases, the young dragon was just that - young. A child. But the territory was safe! She could walk around as she pleased. It would be a fun time to wander around because she was super riled up after three months of sleep. She wanted to run around and explore!

The green dragon hopped towards the scene, wings flopping by her sides. Another kid, but they were speaking gibberish. How odd! She wasn't sure how to understand it, her ears swiveling rapidly to try and figure out if she simply hadn't heard the other's words in full. Coming to stand near the big birdie, Sanzu settled down somewhat. "Hi, hi," she greeted, a grin presenting itself upon her scaly face. "Is he joinin'? C'n we go play?" Her tail wagged excitedly behind her. Yes, small creatures were those that certainly would love to play. She hoped this new face was no exemption. Sanzu's head raised, noting that the other had tumbled backwards. Were they playing with the flowers? She could do that, too - as soon as she knew that the other was willing to play, of course.

today the sun is shining my way

  [font=trebuchet ms]There was another unfamiliar child in the territory. The fact that they were so common around here said a lot about the society on this island, but at least this one had made it here relatively safely.

  Approaching the child, Rin twitched her ears. He'd said something in a foreign language- she was pretty sure it was Spanish, but she wouldn't have bet money on it, as she didn't know much of the language either way. Hopefully he someone here was fluent enough to speak to him.

  Nemhain was the first to speak, asking him if he'd been abandoned- the conclusion that Rin had already come to, unfortunately. Either that, or he had gotten woefully lost. With her queries and Valerian offering shelter, Rin had little to add; though, now that she thought about it, the library probably had dictionaries in other languages. If the language barrier proved an issue, she could work around it.

  Still, that was a long walk. Glancing behind her, Rin watched Sanzu approach, and listened as she asked to go play. "We'll need to check on him and make sure he's okay, then you two can play if he wants to," she answered, with a small nod.

just as quickly as he had fallen, he was surrounded by unfamiliar faces, staring up at all of them with mild confusion. he wasn't really afraid, despite what he could only describe as monsters stood around him. wiggling to his feet, he listened as they spoke words he didn't understand in the slightest. his cheeks puffed with air as he thought, tilting his head up to look between each of the figures.

a very big bird, a dragon, a cat (he thinks), and a large cat. a strange group, indeed. "Son todos bandidos?"* he asked, eyes falling on the dragon who seemed very excited to see him. did he know her? "me llamo spanishkit!"**

* are you all bandits?
** my name is spanishkit!

  [font=trebuchet ms]As the kid looked between them with puffed cheeks, Rin twitched her ears. In retrospect, maybe they should have waited for him to answer Nemhain's question before asking more, but oh well. Once he opened his mouth, she listened intently to his speech.

  "Bandidos," she thought she heard. Her first assumption was that it meant something like "bandits," but making assumptions about foreign languages was a great way to end up committing a severe faux pas. He spoke again, and this time she managed to catch the name "Spanishkit." His language must have been Spanish, then.

  Glancing over at the others, Rin asked, "Do any of you either know your way around Finnloch's library, or know someone who knows Spanish?" She could go get the dictionary herself if none of them knew where it was, but Nemhain and Valerian could both get to the library faster if they did know. Turning back to Spanishkit, she gestured with a paw towards herself and added, "Rin."

Re: WHERE MIGHT WE GO / joining - nemhain. - 02-21-2020

Oh dear. The child was finally speaking, but Nemhain had no idea what the words that left his little muzzle meant. She caught the word bandidos, which sounded enough like bandits for her to make the connection, and she caught his name, but that was about it. The fenghuang blinked down at him with a little frown upon her beak for a moment, seemingly trying to think of how to respond. She shook her head slowly at the boy's first question, trying to communicate that they were not, in fact, bandits, before she pointed a talon at herself, "Nemhain." She figured she would imitate Rin, since that seemed like the best she could do at the moment. Looking over towards the magna in question, Nemhain shifted before she spoke, "I am unable to translate the Spanish, but I can go to Finnloch's library, if you wish. I do not have... intimate knowledge of it, but I could perhaps find a translation dictionary." That seemed like the best course of action, since without it... well, poor Spanishkit would never be able to talk to any of them.

[align=center][div style="width:70%; text-align: justify; padding: 1px; font-family: helvetica;"]Oh jeez, poor kid. Whoever named him obviously knew English, but apparently didn't care enough to teach their son how to speak it. Left him alone to boot. Abandonment struck a bitter note within him, and he had to push away the scowl that threatened to overtake his features.

Though, it was hilarious seeing everyone flounder around trying to understand the little guy. Lemy couldn't understand him either but that was irrelevant. His only knowledge of the Spanish language was 'hola, adios, sí, and hasta vista.' "You're probably the fastest one here, go ahead and look for one," Lemy drawled, waving a paw in Nemhain's direction. He gave Spanishkit a friendly smile, pointing a white paw towards himself. "Lemy!" Everyone else seemed to be doing it, and it wasn't a bad idea.

as everyone introduced themselves, his eyes lit up, jumping to his tiny paws to do a little wiggle. so many new people to call friends! “ring! ring, ring! neh-hain! lee-mee!” he sounded out slowly, trying his best to actually say the names as they were said, but that was a bit difficult when you were a child with minimal speech development. “amigos? no banditos?
