A basket dangled in his jaws, has he made his rounds back towards this place, he was not in any way happy with this thought. He would rather protect the young one has much as he can, that was the least he could do for Jer.
After the girl didn't deserve that much heartbreak time and time again. "@ramona? Ram?" he rumbled through clenched teeth, eyes peering onwards expecting someone to come out from the sand dunes and towards him hopefully.

his summons would be met by the young borzoi breaking cover from the sand dunes she was hunting in, pelt plastered by dried mud to hide her colors. "AUNTIE! she would cry as she raced down towards the hybrid, her eyes filled with tears.
skidding to a hault, the young teenager desperately pressed herself into rene with a heartbreaking sob, "I've missed you so much Auntie ... it's been so lonely here, even with Lynn to look after me, and Kydobi caring for me ... W-where's Zig and Fin?" she asked softly, pulling back, pawing at her muzzle and trying to clear the tears from her face.
seeing the basket her eyes widened before attempting to seek the comfort of his touch again. she didn't want to tell him about Destarion, because she knew her auntie would be in great pain to learn of the massive wolf's death, after all, the two were mates.

The border collie took a good look at the young teenager and could see that her pelt was smeared with mud, no doubt with something else to conceal her pelt colors. "I have no clue, to be honest, but I am sure we'll see one another again." he spoke softly placing the basket down, and just took a deep breath. "At least Lynn is here, and that is good. I was afraid that you were alone." although he had no idea who this Kydobi person was he was grateful to say at least.

"i miss uncle, auntie ... we left for my initiation into the knighthood ... and he ..." she whined miserably, tail drooping, "and ma ... where's helios? where's da?" she cried softly, tears dripping down her face, pressing into his pelt with a sobbing sniffle. "m-ma died ... he got killed by that man ... by augustin. kydobi died too ... lynn almost died ... lynn's so heartbroken over astro ... i'm so lonely here." she cried, admitting to the loneliness in her very core. "everyone's too busy now ... i don't have any friends ..." she whispered, pressing into him.

This family had a strong disregard when it came to the dead period, and that didn't seem to bother Rene has it did the first time around when death alone was a fresh concept, but it wasn't anymore. It was a part of life, and yes it hurt like hell. "Ah, no I didn't know any of those things, I just somewhat woke up in this body, and in this rebirth I suppose. Honestly, I am not surprised if things just happened while I wasn't here, to begin with." he murmured softly gently nudging the sniffling teenager into his arms, well as much as wolfdog could allow embracing the poor creature.
"mon Cheri, I wish I can answer those questions but I have no clue what happened, but would you like to live with me? You don't have to agree to it if you don't want to." Rene suggested calmly with a reassuring lick to the top of her head, he did not like this. No child should be this afraid, or alone.

"i-i was going ti ask if i could go with you ... I remember that you didn't want uncle or i to go on the training trip."

The one that Rene was going to be different from all the rest, but of course no one would take his word seriously, but who was he to question the logic and experience of a man who trained many pupils in the art. He nodded, not trusting himself to speak, but he nodded, all the same, making a sound to confirm what she had said was true.

nuzzling against his chest she wordlessly sobbed, embracing him tightly to herself, trembling hard. "i-it was my fault. uncle got hurt protecting me ... because I was too stupid to move. please dont hate me! i didnt want uncle to get hurt! i didnt want uncle to die!" she nearly wailed, dropping to the ground in a shaking crouch, ears flat and tail tucked close, afraid her gentle spoken aunt would lash out in his pain.
inside she was still a lost little girl whose family was dying left, right and center. deep inside, she was still a girl, a little one, forced to grow up faster than any of them had wanted.

He watched the young girl drop onto a crouch and was awaiting the awaiting words that if he was a born bastard, he would have said and said much worse. His niece did not deserve that of him, even though he had worse saved especially for the man who made him ache anew, every single time, he got himself killed. " I am not going to yell at you, Mon Cheri, I am not cruel, and you don't deserve it. You didn't know. You assumed it was a normal trip, no? I assumed it has well." Rene whispered softly brushing his muzzle against her pelt, and gently petted her with a paw. " I brought your favorite, blueberry muffins, with sugar encrusted on them." he added with some kind of reassurance to get the girl to look up at him again.
