Tanglewood / Announcement Death - February 24th meeting
« on: February 24, 2019, 07:58:04 PM »
Morgan knew this day was coming and he felt about as ready as he could. He sat deep in the middle of a field of flowers right at the edge of territory, the beautiful plants swaying in a breeze he himself created.

The samoyed placed his two bracers on the ground, leaving a note attached which read,
"For Crow. You'll be able to find me when you're ready, and when you do, we'll not have to be apart again."
Next to them he dropped his satchel, which also contained a note:
"For Beck. I'm right here with you for as long as there's even a single drop water left in any world, near or far."

The General stomped hard on ground next, raising a circular platform of ice to rest on and wrapping flowers around it in spirals. He cleared his throat as he took in some nice warm sunlight, letting out some small flames with a smile.

...

"I'll start this meeting with an apology, guys. I'm sorry I've been gone. I've been... focused on some things recently that've been clouding my head for a little while now. I spent a bit of time meditating on those things with a certain Tangler, and I've come to an actual decision now. You're all going to be getting a new leader today, and that leader is Crow."

The cream canine took a long breath, pausing to let everything sink in and letting the warm of the sun soothe his nerves.
"I need to go and look for my Vigenere. It's been almost a year now since my life first began, and through this time I found that what I needed was love -- love like his."
He felt himself blush, though with his fur he simply appeared to adopt a more relaxed expression.
"I don't mean I don't love you all as my family. I just mean I think he deserves company as much as the rest of us, because I've got a feeling he isn't going to find his sister anytime soon."

Flowers upon flowers began to bloom in what few bare spots were left in the field, covering it in their vibrant colors.
"I wouldn't recommend coming to find me. Once I leave, I won't be returning for a long, long time. My partner and I still have a lot of life left to live together."
The samoyed sniffled, wishing he could cry proper tears but instead only getting a brief whiff of the sweet aroma from the crown of flowers he wore upon his head.
"And besides, I'm never really going to be gone. I've still got lots of memories of you guys, and I think I've left a little mark on Tanglewood in the time I've had here. Just know that whether it's on the road, in the stars, in the middle of the sea, or in the Abyss itself, we'll all meet again someday. We'll always be a family."

The dog had to take some deep breaths to compose himself before speaking again.
"I think that's about as good of an speech as I can give. I'll miss all of you more than I can even describe, but I'm sure things can only get better as life goes on. At least, that's what I've learned over this year."
As he spoke, he stepped down from the platform as it lowered to the ground, replacing the bare ground with pink petals once it disappeared.

"For as many hardships and as much pain as we all have to go through, there're just as many joys and just as much pleasure to be found out in the world. It's just a matter of taking that first step."

Morgan parted the crowd as he walked out of territory, staring up into the calm blue sky and wagging his tail harder than ever before.

Morgan headed toward the pained sounds coming from nearby, motioning for Arrow to get closer to Ignis.
"Hang in there!"
yelled the samoyed, sprinting to his fellow Tangler as quickly as he could.
"Come on, Ignis -- what's going on? What's wrong?!"
He pulled a wave of cold water forward, attempting to soak Ignis in an attempt to snap him out of whatever was ailing him.
"I think we'll have to get a Medic or two, Arrow!"

Tanglewood / Announcement From the grave - January 27th meeting
« on: January 28, 2019, 07:34:59 AM »
After what felt like a hundred years since his last bit of activity, Morgan stumbled out into the town square. His pelt was matted down and dirty, his countenance teetering on the border between neutral and lethargic. He wore no bracers, no satchel, no mask and no armor. All he wore were signs that things were simply not right.

"Hey, Tanglers."
He spat out a tired bark, sitting back on his haunches in front of the statue he would have normally climbed onto.
"Looks like it's meeting time."
He struggled to remember what few things he saw happen during the previous month, finding that it was all a dull blur.
"I... I'm..."
He could not quite bring himself to continue that apology, focusing instead on the pressing issue of new Tanglers.
"I'll welcome the new Tanglers."
The samoyed looked around in an attempt to sense new blood, but everyone's colors seemed weak.

"Imali and Lavi, and I think... I think that's it. Welcome, both of you. Please don't disappear."
His tone was one of complete earnest; after a long pause, he returned to his announcements.
"Crow's a Guardsman now, and... nothing else for promotions."
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts to move onto the next announcement.

"The Pitt is requesting an alliance with us now... I'm honestly not sure where to go with it. They've killed some of us. They've tortured some of us. This'd only be a more obvious trap if someone told us straight out."
He frowned, shaking his head once more.
"The story about the Rosebloods's a bit worrying too, but we don't really have much of a reason to believe it, do we?"
He looked around as if to find an answer, but continued,
"We'll still have to think about the possibility of an alliance. It's probably not gonna happen, but it might still be worth talking about."

"I don't really have much else to say. I'm sorry."
The apology was twofold; the rather short set of announcements was hardly helped by his less-than-enthusiastic attitude.
"I've really let myself go this month."
The General leaned back against the statue, choosing to stay around rather than heading home as he normally did.

Tanglewood / Re: HOUSE-MAN BLUES + drinking
« on: January 11, 2019, 05:01:58 PM »
Morgan tried his best not to comment on the smell as he arrived alone on the scene. He already had rather uncomfortable memories with other Tanglers consuming alcohol in the past, and the horrid odor that came from such drinks gave him even less of a reason to try it in the future. Instead, he simply located the nearest source of water and floated some toward his mouth in the shape of a sphere. Taking a sip of the sphere, he acknowledged Leroy with a nod. It was his longtime comrade who had set things up, it seemed; the General was glad to have the chance to support him for his event even if he did not necessarily like its premise.

The samoyed found himself approaching his fellow canine before long, considering he had nobody else to talk to just yet.
"Hey, Leroy,"
he barked, taking another sip of his water.
"What inspired you to make this little party? I like how cozy it is."
Tanglewood itself had become quite 'cozy' as of late - nearly as much of a ghost town as it had been during the previous September.
"What's your favorite thing to drink, anyway? There's so many options here..."

Private Rendezvous / Private The middle of nowhere - Crow training, day 1
« on: January 04, 2019, 03:09:25 AM »
The sun had only risen the slightest bit over the vast ocean, the morning sky still remaining dark. Morgan took breath after deep breath as he channeled his powers; the raft carrying himself and the unconscious Crow had slowly been pulled through the sea for several hours. The samoyed only stopped manipulating the waves once he was certain that he was fully unable to see land in any direction. As the wooden vessel slowed on its own, Morgan lied down next to the sleeping feline. He looked up and down the other Tangler's body, feeling a familiar sort of desire; telling himself that that was selfish, the General instead closed his eyes and began to call Crow's name in an effort to awaken him.

...

Once Crow finally awakened, the canine sat up and began to explain himself.
"Crow, we're in the middle of the ocean right now. This isn't a dream. The plan's that we'll stay here - just you and me - for a week without any supplies. I figured it'd be a good way to train us both."
He tensed up a bit. He remembered Crow had agreed to be trained, but he felt quite bad that he had to avoid giving any details on the training itself to convince him to say yes in the first place.
"I'm... I'm sorry, by the way. I wasn't sure how you'd react to this."

Private Rendezvous / Re: A glimmer of hope - private guidance
« on: January 04, 2019, 01:59:00 AM »
Something of a smile formed on Morgan's face as he noted Usagi's apparent understanding. He returned the cage to its liquid form, tossing it all back into the sea whence it came.
"I see,"
he whispered to himself as he heard the mention of the Rosebloods.
"That's fine. Go whenever you're ready, but just let me know first. They're our allies right now, so as long as you can take care of yourself I doubt they'll have any issues with you being there."
He lied back on his chair, looking up into the sky.
"Really though, I wish I could do more for you. This is just something that you have to confront on your own, though. I can give some advice, but you'll be the one who deals with this... this inner beast."

Private Rendezvous / Re: JANUARY 2019 LEADER MEETING
« on: January 04, 2019, 01:43:29 AM »
Morgan appeared not long after Sephiroth joined the group, the samoyed choosing to don half a set of armor to match his mask. There was no reason not to be ready for battle, whether to protect himself or to protect another leader. He did not know what sorts of relationships any of them had, but he did know he had to make sure he returned home in one piece. In any case, he could remove his armor if everyone proved to be peaceful enough -- a display of friendliness, if anything.

"Howdy,"
the General barked out as he approached the gathering. Acknowledging the one ally in his vicinity, he added,
"Sephiroth."
An unseen smile found its way onto the dog's face; some familiarity was welcome in such an uncomfortable environment.

A hint of warmth touched the samoyed's voice as he continued,
"I don't think I've... formally met most of you before. You can call me Morgan -- I'm the General of Tanglewood. We've been isolated from most other groups around here."
From beneath his mask his eyes darted between the two relatively unfamiliar creatures. He knew he recognized the Pittian from a battle some months back, but the third leader was a complete unknown.
"And who're you two?"

While he waited for some brief responses, the General floated a small wrapped item in front of himself and dropped it lightly on the ground.
"Snacks,"
he muttered, using some beads of water to tear open the wrapping and reveal a small stack of cold s'mores.

Tanglewood / Announcement The end of the year - December 31st meeting
« on: December 31, 2018, 01:51:46 AM »
Morgan worked all morning to get the square ready for his meeting: similar to his party the previous week, it was covered in a layer of fluffy white snow. The sun was doing plenty of work to melt it all, but in defiance the samoyed put effort into keeping it frozen using his powers. After enough time, a small but noisy crowd gathered around the statue upon which he sat.
"Hello, hello,"
the General called out, smiling wide.
"It's meeting time! I hope you all enjoy the snow out here today. Think of it as a little treat - we don't see it too often down here."

"I'll start this meeting by welcoming our new Tanglers: Marlon, McCoy, and Revan. I'm hoping you'll all enjoy your stay here."
Morgan took a moment to consider how long it had been since he began saying such things to every newcomer; it had already been nearly five months, yet things still continued to feel new.
"Oh, and I've got some promotions and shout-outs this week. First, I'll give shout-outs to Beck, Jim, Kiira, and Leroy - thanks very much for being around, guys - and then I'll be promoting Crow to a Chaser, Aya to the position of a Guardsman, and..."
He took a slight pause for effect; he was not originally going to make this decision so soon after Vigenere's departure, but he knew he had to do it eventually.
"Arrow will be our new Captain of the Guard for the time being. Congratulations to all of you."

"The Ascendants invited us to two events this last week: a 'Christmas party', and a 'blind dating' meetup. Feel free to go to either of those if you've not already. Otherwise, the long-range combat event is still going, as well as my little snow party. I'm thinking of making a bonfire to celebrate the new year since we haven't had a big one in a while, but we'll see."
Morgan paused again, but this time in surprise: he really did not have anything else to say, it seemed.
"I... I think that's it. Very quick stuff, but sometimes things just happen to be that way. Please enjoy this snow, and find me if you've got any questions."

TL;DR

  • Welcome to Marlon, McCoy, and Revan!
  • Shout-outs to Beck, Jim, Kiira, and Leroy!
  • Crow is now a Chaser!
  • Aya is now a Guardsman!
  • Arrow is now the Captain of the Guard!
  • The Ascendants invited Tanglewood to two events, so check those out here and here!

"Ta, kao. Takao."
Morgan repeated the name as if he were attempting to grasp it in his paws, staring at the air in front of him.
"And this thing's made you hurt others?"
He sighed in worry, though a slight hint of relief washed over him. At the very least Usagi seemed to know what she was talking about, even if only with what little information she had supplied him with.
"If you need to travel to find your sibling, then I won't try to stop you when you leave. Just know this: when you're alone out there, these battles with Takao might be even tougher than they already are."

The General wished he had something better to say, and as if by magic, he found some inspiration.
"You can't forget who you are. You've got your own strength, and you can figure out how to deal with this threat."
He pulled some water from the nearby sea, freezing it to encase the pair in a cage of ice.
"See these walls around us?"
Morgan closed his eyes, then began to breathe more steadily.
"If you can at least tell when Takao is about to surface, the best thing to do might be to find somewhere safe to put yourself - somewhere like this. If you're able to do that, it'll be that much harder for Takao to hurt anyone else. Understand?"
It was as good of an idea as any, and even taking small steps to contain the beast would hopefully prove to be useful to Usagi.
"Oh, and where are you thinking of looking for this sibling, anyway?"

Tanglewood / Re: YOU'RE SO SILLY // open, nightmare
« on: December 28, 2018, 05:36:55 AM »
Morgan's dreams were the same as usual - that is to say, they were chaotic and awful. Yet, Vigenere always found his way to calm him as he slept. Sometimes the feline appeared within the dreams to ground him, while other times the dog could feel his boyfriend's warmth even while asleep. This time was a mixture of the two, but there was something different as well; he could sense a distinct negativity in the savannah's aura. It was such a strong feeling that the samoyed woke up from the shock; he nearly felt like waking his partner up himself, but decided against it. Instead, he provided what comfort he could by snuggling close and giving him something of a hug.

Before long, however, he was assaulted by a loud noise: his own name. He was about to bark out in surprise when he heard Vigenere weep and press his muzzle into his chest. The samoyed's heart pounded as he pulled his boyfriend in closer, closing his own eyes as he turned his head down to give him a few licks.
"It'll be alright,"
Morgan whispered, his tail wagging slowly.
"I'm here, and you're here, and there's nothing that can hurt you or me or anyone."
He found that he didn't have trouble coming up with words to say, so he continued,
"You know I love you."
He gave the savannah a long lick across the forehead, trying his best to stay calm and sweet as he found one last loving sentence to whisper.
"I'll always protect you, my Vigenere."

(just posting a little something here as a proper sendoff for Vigenere.)

"Ah, you're finally here,"
Morgan began. He was glad he did not have to wait long, as he was slowly growing a slight bit nervous at the prospect of having to deal with an issue he was not familiar with.
"So what exactly is happening to you, anyway? You told me you were fighting for control of something, but... what is it? What's it like?"
He was hoping to get something of a handle on the situation -- even if he could not help directly, just knowing more about things would be good for later.

Tanglewood / Announcement Late late lateness - December 24th meeting
« on: December 24, 2018, 06:30:17 AM »
Morgan felt rather uncomfortable as he reached the town square. He was late - very late - and had only the most basic of excuses: he was exhausted beyond measure and he wanted to be left alone. In any case, he did still have to get the meeting done; finally climbing up on top of the statue, the General cleared his throat and spoke.

"Good day, everyone. I'm sorry for my lateness. I'll get through these announcements quickly so everyone can get back to their business."
Smiling, the samoyed scanned over the small crowd to locate the subjects of his speech.
"First, I'll welcome new Tangler Perpetualpaw. Another Tangler, Perseus, also made himself known after being reclusive for a while. Please welcome him, too."

"Next, some brief demotions: Axle and Renegadeanthem are removed from their positions until they return to activity, if they do. I'd also like to give shout-outs to Arrow, Crow, and Jim. Oh... and..."
Morgan paused, closing his eyes.
"My Vigenere had to leave and guard his sister, Atbash. She's not in good health, and... and so, Vigenere had to leave. Maybe he'll be back sometime soon, but until then, we'll be missing our Captain of the Guard."
He turned his head, opened his eyes, and stared off into the distance. He really did miss his boyfriend, even if he knew he was off doing something important.

"I'm sorry."
The General took a breath, then continued,
"In other news, the Rosebloods visited us, and... it was pandemonium. I'm still not even quite sure what happened. They did at least clear up the fact that the murders they committed were by rogue members. As despicable as they were, we shouldn't blame the Rosebloods as a group for that. We need allies right now -- especially as actual menaces like the Pitt still roam free."

"Just a few more things. The snow party is still going, as is the ranged combat training - I recommend visiting them when you can. There should be some more events planned for the near future too, but those are under wraps for now."
The samoyed finally closed his eyes again, forced a smile, and added,
"That's it then. Stay safe, everyone."

TL;DR

  • Welcome to Perpetualpaw and Perseus!
  • Axle and Renegadeanthem are removed from their positions; Vigenere left.
  • Shout-outs to Arrow, Crow, and Jim.
  • The snow party and long-ranged combat training events are still open!

(Apologies for lateness; I had to write for an entire day on Friday, and spent Saturday recharging my batteries and Sunday at a holiday party. I should be back now!)

Tanglewood / Re: centuries ago + introduction
« on: December 20, 2018, 06:42:08 PM »
Morgan, as usual, put on his widest smile as he did his daily rounds around town. He hummed a random tune to himself as he looked around, taking in the sights and keeping his chin up to appear perky and energetic, happy and friendly.

However, in candor, a deep hole had been gouged out of his heart when Vigenere first took his indefinite leave from Tanglewood territory. In a matter of days the General found himself dreaming about, staring at, and mingling with the males of Tanglewood far more than he once did in order to fill the aching hole, but it was not quite enough. His newfound needs drove him to seek out even the more quiet and reserved of his group, and so he was lead to Perseus. He had not really seen the other dog enough to get to know him like some other Tanglers, but it was never too late to try.
"Hello,"
he barked, skipping along toward him.

Taking his voice down to a quieter level, Morgan asked,
"Nice seeing you out here today, friend -- how've you been?"
The samoyed was not the best with greetings; even with all his practice, he still worried that he would say something wrong when talking to someone less familiar. Still, he kept up his smile and wagged his tail around as he awaited a response of any kind.

Tanglewood / Announcement An ordinary day - December 15th meeting
« on: December 16, 2018, 06:08:52 AM »
Morgan arrived to his spot early, finding it hard to believe a week had already passed. It felt so busy, yet he had personally seen so little; he shook his head to clear his thoughts before he began his speech.
"Meeting time, right?"

"Nothing particularly tragic happened this week, and while I don't think we should be celebrating something like that, I'm just glad you all are okay. I'll get to our welcomes next: I'm happy to introduce you all to Julia and Malaise, our joiners this week, and Mirabella, who's back after some time away. Please, do your best to welcome them nicely as I talked about in the last couple of weeks."

"Next, for some promotions and a shout-out: Jim is now going to be a Guardsman -- the first new one in a little while now. I'll give a shout-out to Feverdream, too, since I saw her a lot earlier in the week."
His smile turned to a frown, and he added,
"Sadly, I'm handing out warnings to Renegadeanthem and Axle. I figured they'd be busy for a bit, but I haven't seen them in quite a while now."
He really hated to give demotions, and he only ever did once or twice before, but he knew deep down that he'd have to do something like it eventually.

"Moving on... I made a winter event here in the town square, so I hope you all enjoy. I also started a second battle training event, though this one's a long-range one instead of a short-range one. I'd very highly recommend going to it - we really do need the training."
As the time to confront the Pitt slowly approached, the need for more training was only growing.
"I think that's mostly everything this week. We got visited by the Rosebloods, but otherwise nothing new happened between the other groups and ourselves."
With nothing more to say, Morgan let his head rest on his front legs as he closed his eyes. He would need to rest before getting back to work during the week.

TL;DR

  • Welcome to Julia, Malaise, and welcome back Mirabella!
  • Jim is now a Guardsman!
  • Renegadeanthem and Axle receive warnings.
  • Feverdream receives a shoutout!
  • Winter wonderland and long-range battle training threads are up!
  • We were visited by the Rosebloods.

Private Rendezvous / Private A glimmer of hope - private guidance
« on: December 16, 2018, 05:08:44 AM »
As always, Morgan was more than happy to help his fellow Tanglers with any problems that would arise during life in Tanglewood. Still, he never claimed to be prepared for everything -- and his impromptu guidance session with Usagi was a good example of the General's unpreparedness. All he knew was that she had some issue she was 'fighting for control with' at all times, but that was not a lot to go off of. Vigenere had described possession to him - something like what had happened to Delilah. He'd also heard of powers going haywire and doing strange things without their 'hosts' realizing it, like when he released an elemental blast upon being attacked by spirits.

With only those two leads to go off of, he set up some old plastic chairs on the sand just a few feet away from the sea. He hoped the calming atmosphere of Tanglewood's shores would help Usagi in some way, even if only because it provided some privacy.
"Now,"
the samoyed whispered to himself,
"to wait."
